We commemorate the first anniversary of the historic victory in the referendum that decided to leave the crude oil in the ground and halt oil exploitation in the Yasuní. In the context of August, the month of remembrance of extractivism, we present an interview with Alex Rafalowicz, director of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, who has 15 years of experience as a political analyst, activist, organizer, and strategist in the fight for climate justice.

We also announce the important International Summit for the Yasuní, organized by NAWE (Waorani Nationality of Ecuador), which will take place from August 28 to 30 in Puyo. The event aims to develop a Post-Referendum Action Plan aimed at protecting the Yasuní and the Waorani territory, seeking to establish viable alternatives to extractivism.

We present an interview with Maristella Svampa, a prominent member of the Ecosocial and Intercultural Pact of the South. Svampa, a senior researcher at CONICET and professor at the National University of La Plata, has a solid academic background that includes studies in Philosophy at the National University of Córdoba, a specialization in History and Philosophy in France, and a PhD in Sociology from the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS) in Paris.

We also highlight the workshop held in Yasuní territory, which included the participation of experts Andrés Gómez and Roberto Ochandio, along with leaders and representatives of the Waorani and Kichwa communities.

Juan Bay, president of NAWE, submitted a request for follow-up to the Court's ruling. This ruling orders the Ecuadorian State to suspend oil activities and adopt immediate measures to protect Waorani territory, including those of Indigenous peoples in isolation, as well as to restore natural resources.
